Detection of irradiated food products

Regulatory Compliance & Expertise

Irradiated food products must be labeled according to Directive L66/16 (1999). Aerial provides manufacturers and control laboratories with the technical and scientific expertise to ensure compliance with these regulations.

Our Capabilities

Aerial is officially approved by DGCCRF for the detection of irradiated food products and applies internationally recognized standardized methods, including:

  • Thermoluminescence (EN 1788:2001) – Detection in food containing silicate materials.
  • Gas Chromatography (EN 1784, EN 1785:2003) – Identification of hydrocarbons and 2-alkylcyclobutanones in fatty foods.
  • ESR Spectroscopy (EN 1786, EN 1787, EN 13708) – Detection in food containing bone, cellulose, or sugar.
  •

Advanced Analytical Tools

To support accurate detection, Aerial utilizes state-of-the-art equipment:

  • Gas Chromatograph (GC) with Mass Spectrometer
  • Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) Spectrometer
  • Thermoluminometer
  • X-ray & Electron Beam Irradiation Sources

European Regulatory Framework

EU regulations require validated or standardized analytical methods for detecting irradiated foods. Aerial ensures full compliance with these standards, providing reliable testing solutions.
